Cat & Kitten Vaccinations

Keeping your cat up to date on vaccinations is crucial for their overall health and happiness. At Vets in Endeavour Hills, we offer comprehensive vaccination services tailored to both kittens and adult cats in Melbourne. Our dedicated team is committed to ensuring your furry family member receives the best protection available.

Why Is It Important To Vaccinate Your Cat?

Kittens and adult cats face threats from various infectious diseases, many of which are easily transmissible. Indoor cats can also encounter harmful viruses through brief interactions with other cats or contaminated surfaces. Core viruses can lead to lasting health issues and may be fatal, especially in unvaccinated cats or those with weakened immune systems. Vaccinating your cat is crucial for their health and helps prevent the spread of illness. Additionally, boarding facilities require current vaccinations for entry.

What We Vaccinate Against

At Vets in Endeavour Hills, we provide core cat vaccinations against the following serious viruses:

Additional Vaccination for Outdoor Cats:

For outdoor cats, we recommend vaccination against Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This virus compromises the immune system, leading to chronic health complications, including flu-like symptoms, dental disease, and poor coat quality. Cats with FIV typically have shorter life spans due to increased susceptibility to various diseases. FIV is primarily transmitted through bites from infected cats.

Vaccination Schedule

Vaccination Schedule for Kittens:

To ensure your cat receives optimal protection with a comprehensive feline vaccination plan, we recommend the following kitten vaccination schedule:

First vaccination

6–8 weeks old

Second vaccination

10–12 weeks old

Third vaccinations

14-16 weeks old

Annual Vaccinations:

After your cat has completed the first series of vaccinations, annual boosters are necessary to maintain their immunity..

FIV Vaccination Schedule:

Your feline friend will need a series of three boosters administered two weeks apart. It’s important to finish the vaccination course before they start venturing outdoors. While the vaccine offers strong protection, it’s not 100% effective, so testing may be recommended if your cat has been involved in a fight.

Please note that Manningham Council now has a 24-hour cat curfew, requiring all cats to be confined within your property boundary at all times.

Let’s talk pets

If we surveyed pet owners about potential allergy symptoms in dogs and cats, most would list signs such as recurrent ear infections, generalised itchiness, paw licking, or tummy upset.
Whilst most owners understand the impact of their pet’s oral health on their general health and quality of life, many may still need clarification on the practical ways to achieve excellent pet dental hygiene.
How many amazing medical skills and services do our veterinary hospitals have to offer? To show you, we’d like to tell the story of little Morris, who had an unfortunate run-in with a car.
Whether you’re purchasing a special breed pup or scouting out local rescues to adopt a canine companion, it’s important to research and plan for your future dog’s specific care needs.

FAQs

Yes, a comprehensive health examination is essential prior to giving a vaccination. This ensures that your cat is in good health and free from any underlying conditions that could affect the vaccination’s safety or efficacy.
